Today we had Alfredo, from the Philipinnes, doing our demanding guided tour around Montserrat. In our bike tour we not only climbed to the Montserrat Monastery, but also cycled beside other nice Monastries nearby, as Sant Benet and Santa Cecilia.
In addition, we climbed to Coll de l’Obac with amazing views of the Montserrat mountains. During the trip we were surrounding the whole range of mountains with incredible views of the steep walls.
Montserrat is an amazing spot, no wonder it is one of the most popular day trips for tourists from Barcelona. They arrive in big buses to visit the Monastery and also to do some hiking in the mountains. The Monastery is at 700 mts height, but the highest point is at 1200 mts (Sant Jeroni), then there is a classical height from the Monastry to Sant Jeroni and back.
Once in Montserrat, the classical thing to do is visiting the small black virgin (that was found here centuries ago), and lighting a candle if you would like to pray for someone or something. Montserrat is a pilgrimage destination for catholic people from all over the world.
A bike tour in Montserrat is stunning. Great scenery, amazing landscapes, and good workout!!!
