Pirinexus cycling route is a marked cycling route around Catalonia which includes gravel paths and small roads. No need to say that Catalonia has become one of the best places for cycling. For both road cycling and gravel cycling. The total distance of this Pirinexus route is 360 km, then it is possible to do it in just 1 day (tough ride, indeed!), or 2 days, also 3 stages (pretty doable for experienced bikers), etc. The route is mainly easy even if it crosses the Pyrenees (border Spain-France). The highest point is Coll d'Ares, at 1513 mts, but from the Spanish side it is much milder than from the French side. If done from the north side, Coll d'Ares, starting at Arles Sur Tech, it is a remarkable climb 32 km long with a total elevation of 1250 mts. In general, this Pirinexus cycling route is much easier if done clockwise Girona, suggested starting point. A good starting point could be Girona, as it is one of the most important cycling destinations in the world. Mainly for road cycling, but also for gravel cycling. Then, from Girona, the main towns to go through are Olot, Camprodon, (Coll d'Ares), Prats de Molló, Arles Sur Tech, Le Boulou, La Jonquera, Perelada, L'Escala, Palamós, Sant Feliu de Guixols and finally again to Girona. One of the most important cycling infrastructures in Catalonia is the Greenways, the so-called" Vies Verdes", former railways converted into bike paths. This Pirinexus route goes along some of the main Greenways. Especially remarkable is the way from Sant Feliu de Guixols (at the coast) to Olot, getting through Girona. Gravel cycling from Barcelona to Girona is a great experience. Gravel cycling is becoming more and more popular all over the world. We all love the feeling of speed that we get on the road bike. But at the same time we love the safety that gravel paths offer. Gravel bike is the answer to this feeling. Also in Catalonia, gravel cycling is becoming big. Barcelona, in spite of being a big city has a lot of gravel paths (especially in the Collserola range of mountains surrounding the city). No need to say much about Girona, which has become a great cycling destination (the best in the world?) also for gravel cycling. Then putting together both cities (Barcelona and Girona) is a doable challenge that can be done on a gravel bike, in a very nice and safe way. Barcelona is a great cycling destination, that's for sure. And cycling the hills around Barcelona is a must for any keen cyclist. Even if it is a big city, cycling is great in Barcelona, with nice climbs, smooth road surface, very good weather, and polite drivers. Very close to Barcelona there are several hills very interesting for us cyclists. Not big first category mountains, as they are a bit further, but from the same Barcelona there some very nice ones, really worth cycling up there. The average range would be about 350-400 mts height with 5-6 km of climbing. As said before, very interesting to put together some of them to do some nice workout! 10 hills around Barcelona Tibidabo is the main hill around Barcelona. The church on top overlooks the whole city and is the main destination of every keen cyclist arriving in Barcelona. 500 mts height. Forat del Vent (literally "Hole of the wind" in the Catalan language). Very interesting loop including this climb and Tibidabo, a classic for the after-work local rides. The road to Forat del Vent is very nice especially on the Cerdanyola del Valles side, with scarce traffic and nice views of Montserrat from the top. La Vallensana. In the north of Barcelona, belonging to Serralada del Prelitoral. Especially recommended from Montcada i Reixach, no traffic. Very interesting (and steep) add-on the climb to Hospital Germans Trias i Pujol (Can Ruti), on top of the hill, on the seaside of the climb. La Conreria. Vallensana and La Conreria is another perfect loop, very similar climbs. Nice views over the sea from the top. Coll de Parpers. Very much recommended. About 30 km from Barcelona, it is the road from La Roca del Valles to Argentona. A classical loop would be climbing Parpers from

In these tours (being by road bike, hybrid bike or e-bike) you can cycle in solitaire roads just used by the winemakers. The roads are in very good condition, and they cross tiny villages in a region in which everything is about the wine. Those countryside roads close to Barcelona that you would love to cycle in. Weather in the Penedes region is sunny and dry all year long. It can be a little cold in January and February, but cycling is still perfect at midday. Penedes, south Barcelona, is also close to Montserrat mountain, then it is possible to include Montserrat in this ride. Bike tours in Penedes are not just about cycling! Today we had a couple of dutch triathletes, Joyce and Roy. We did the reckon of Barcelona Ironman 70.3 which includes 90 km with 3 climbs, especially demanding the climb to La Costa del Montseny. Technical descent (be careful on the race!) and then back to Calella. Such a nice route, especially for those who enjoy the tough climbs!! Hopefully we provide compact crank in our rental bikes. Having the 34-50 is a must to get to the top. The route starts at the NII flat coastal road, then you take a deviation to right to start a nice road leading to Sant Cebrià de Vallalta and Sant Iscle de Vallalta. Then you get a crossroads to start the very first climb to the pass called Collsacreu. Not very difficult, no crazy gradients, but still a pretty long climb. After the pass, you have a long descent and you get to Sant Celoni, where you will start the climb to La Costa del Montseny. This is the tough second climb in a nice narrow road, you will have to get your slowest gear (whatever it is) to get to the top. Then you have a technical descent (not more than 3 kilometers, but very steep downhill and narrow. Once back at Sant Celoni you have to go back the same way you did the first climb, meaning Collsacreu again opposite direction. Doing the guided reckon of the Barcelona Ironman 70.3 you will be able to focus on the training and not worrying about the navigation.
