Montserrat is the magical mountain close to Barcelona, and a bike tour is the best way to discover it. The meaning of Verge de Montserrat for Catalan people goes beyond the religious feeling. Visiting the virgin in pilgrimage is the usual thing to do to thank for anything that happened. This is also the reason why visiting the Monastery and the Basilica is better on working days rather than at the weekend. Saturdays and Sundays local people are also visiting, on top of the usual foreign visitors. Then, much better avoiding the weekend. The usual thing to do in Montserrat is touching the virgin (for that you will have to wait in the long queue at right on the Basilica) and also lighting a candle. Sports in Montserrat are a great experience. No need to say that rock climbing is king in these steep walls. Lots of rock climbers around! Also hiking is a great experience in Montserrat. Our recommendation is to get the highest point of the mountain (Miranda de Sant Jeroni, at 1200 mts), from the monastery (at 700 mts). You can do that in just a couple hours (way and back) and the views from the top are stunning! Click here for the detail of the route. In our cycling tours we will lead you to the best roads around Montserrat. We will take you to tiny roads without any traffic, and will surround the whole mountain. This way you will see the massif walls from all prospectives. This is an amazing trip with great views, do not miss it! The end of our cycling tours is, obviously, the monastery. The steep final climb is, in words of one of our customers, a mistic experience, fighting the road and the slopes! Once at the Monastery, the classical

Tibidabo (in Collserola range of mountains) is the highest mountain surrounding Barcelona, at 500 meters height. It is a must getting to the top of Tibidabo cycling, overlooking Barcelona, and it has been included in several professional cycling races. You can see the church on top from all over the city. It is impressive, illuminated at night. Tibidabo is the goal of every cyclist in Barcelona. But Barcelona is a big city, and it is not very usual that a professional cycling race had a finish at the top of this iconic mountain. Montjuic is a much more popular mountain, which had many stage endings in Volta a Catalunya and also in Vuelta a España. Even in the Tour de France 2009 finished in Montjuic! Not to mention that Montjuic hosted a couple of Cycling World Championships years 1973 and 1984. But Tibidabo has had several stages ending in cycling races. In this article you can read some details of the climb and several sides that Tibidabo has. So far, just in 3 times Volta a Catalunya finished at the top of Tibidabo, they were the years 1955 (victory for Alfredo Esmatges), 1986 (victory for Johan Van de Velde), and 2007 with a spectacular ending in the steepest part (the so-called parking road) with Samuel Sánchez ahead of Dimitri Vinokourov. Cycling to the top of Tibidabo with the fantastic sights of Barcelona has become a classic in professional cycling races. We wish we had stage endings at Tibidabo much more often! In Barcelona and Catalonia, in general, we love cycling and we love watching live professional races!

Today we had Alfredo, from the Philipinnes, doing our demanding guided tour around Montserrat. In our bike tour we not only climbed to the Montserrat Monastery, but also cycled beside other nice Monastries nearby, as Sant Benet and Santa Cecilia. In addition, we climbed to Coll de l'Obac with amazing views of the Montserrat mountains. During the trip we were surrounding the whole range of mountains with incredible views of the steep walls. Montserrat is an amazing spot, no wonder it is one of the most popular day trips for tourists from Barcelona. They arrive in big buses to visit the Monastery and also to do some hiking in the mountains. The Monastery is at 700 mts height, but the highest point is at 1200 mts (Sant Jeroni), then there is a classical height from the Monastry to Sant Jeroni and back. Once in Montserrat, the classical thing to do is visiting the small black virgin (that was found here centuries ago), and lighting a candle if you would like to pray for someone or something. Montserrat is a pilgrimage destination for catholic people from all over the world. A bike tour in Montserrat is stunning. Great scenery, amazing landscapes, and good workout!!!

Montseny mountains are really close to Barcelona. You can reach them in about 50 km. Once in Sant Celoni (the starting point of many of the climbs) then you can choose several roads: 1) Turó de l'Home. This is the king climb in Montseny. Reaching 1700 mts height, the climb is 25 km long with very steep parts, specially arriving to the summit. 2) Santa fe del Montseny. Spectacular road also 25 km long reaching 1300 mts. Specially on working days there is no traffic at all, perfect for cycling! 3) Coll Formic. One of my personal favourites. A scenic, sunny road, you can climb it even in winter, reaching 1145 mts. Mild climb most of the 26 km, but last 9 km are a bit steeper. A real first category climb. 4) Coll de Ravell. Between Montseny and Guilleries, this is also one of the solitaire roads you can ride when touching Montseny mountains. Really worth! No doubt that Turó de l'Home is one of the highlights if you are in Barcelona and you are into cycling. A real challenge!!

Cycling in Barcelona at night might be an issue if you don't know the right places to ride. Here we make some suggestions, in order you can cycle safely in the dark hours. 1) The best place to ride at night is the Formula 1 track in Montmeló town. Not away from the city, you can get it by train. The Formula 1 track is open just tuesdays and thursdays from 18,30 to 21,00. The track is not fully lighted, so you will need to have a good light. The length of the track is 5 km so you can make some loops and test yourself. The loop includes an couple of nice climbs. A ticket for 1 day costs 5 euros. You have to bring your own bike. More information here: https://www.circuitcat.com/en/experiences/bicircuit/ 2) There is a bike lane along river Besos (from Sant Adrià del Besos to Montcada i Reixach) 7 km long which is lighted, also very safe, as there are no cars, just walkers, hikers, some skates and dogs (watch out with unleashed dogs). It is a very good and safe place to cycle in the dark in Barcelona. 3) There is a very nice road to cycle at night which we call "Dummidrome" (Tontódromo). It is the road between Cerdanyola del Vallès and Sant Cugat del Valles. Very easy to get from Barcelona. Wide road with 2 lanes every direction, fully lighted which is also a safe place to cycle at night around Barcelona. The route can be longer including the road to the University (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona). This road is used in the very popular Cerdanyola Duathlon, late march. 4) Since the new airport Terminal (T1) was opened, there is a large road from Barcelona to the airport which is also very good for

When you visit Barcelona and you are into cycling, there is one place you want to get with your bike. This is Basilica del Sagrat Cor del Tibidabo church, at the top of the highest mountain surrounding Barcelona. You can see it from every point of the city, and specially at night, as it is illuminated. Iconic destination for all Barcelona inhabitants, very well known for every local, and specially for children, as at the top of the mountain, just beside the church there is an amusement park. Surprising to learn that amusement park is much older than the very church! The amusement park was open early XX century, but the church was just finished in 1961. Some different approaches to the summit. We consider 4 different sides cycling to Tibidabo church in Barcelona: - La Rabassada. One of the most popular climbs from Barcelona. Starting at Ronda de Dalt, road leading to Sant Cugat. Great views over the city. - Climb from Via Augusta (Barcelona). This side goes through Vallvidrera (steep part when crossing the village), and can be finished with a very steep part just getting to the parking area. Volta a Catalunya professional race had a stage finish right there. - Climb from Sant Cugat. About 7 km long, it is not a very steep climb. Really worth. This side connects with La Rabasada side about 1 km to the summit. - Molins de Rei side. Santa Creu d'Olorda. Fantastic solitaire road in the middle of the forest. This road gets to Vallvidrera, and then shares the road with Via Augusta side. Once at the top you have to enjoy the views over the city. Magnificient viewpoint at 500 mts above sea level, which you reallly deserved if you cycled up there. If you climb some stairs
