Tibidabo (in Collserola range of mountains) is the highest mountain surrounding Barcelona, at 500 meters height. It is a must getting to the top of Tibidabo cycling, overlooking Barcelona, and it has been included in several professional cycling races. You can see the church on top from all over the city. It is impressive, illuminated at night. Tibidabo is the goal of every cyclist in Barcelona. But Barcelona is a big city, and it is not very usual that a professional cycling race had a finish at the top of this iconic mountain. Montjuic is a much more popular mountain, which had many stage endings in Volta a Catalunya and also in Vuelta a España. Even in the Tour de France 2009 finished in Montjuic! Not to mention that Montjuic hosted a couple of Cycling World Championships years 1973 and 1984. But Tibidabo has had several stages ending in cycling races. In this article you can read some details of the climb and several sides that Tibidabo has. So far, just in 3 times Volta a Catalunya finished at the top of Tibidabo, they were the years 1955 (victory for Alfredo Esmatges), 1986 (victory for Johan Van de Velde), and 2007 with a spectacular ending in the steepest part (the so-called parking road) with Samuel Sánchez ahead of Dimitri Vinokourov. Cycling to the top of Tibidabo with the fantastic sights of Barcelona has become a classic in professional cycling races. We wish we had stage endings at Tibidabo much more often! In Barcelona and Catalonia, in general, we love cycling and we love watching live professional races!

When you visit Barcelona and you are into cycling, there is one place you want to get with your bike. This is Basilica del Sagrat Cor del Tibidabo church, at the top of the highest mountain surrounding Barcelona. You can see it from every point of the city, and specially at night, as it is illuminated. Iconic destination for all Barcelona inhabitants, very well known for every local, and specially for children, as at the top of the mountain, just beside the church there is an amusement park. Surprising to learn that amusement park is much older than the very church! The amusement park was open early XX century, but the church was just finished in 1961. Some different approaches to the summit. We consider 4 different sides cycling to Tibidabo church in Barcelona: - La Rabassada. One of the most popular climbs from Barcelona. Starting at Ronda de Dalt, road leading to Sant Cugat. Great views over the city. - Climb from Via Augusta (Barcelona). This side goes through Vallvidrera (steep part when crossing the village), and can be finished with a very steep part just getting to the parking area. Volta a Catalunya professional race had a stage finish right there. - Climb from Sant Cugat. About 7 km long, it is not a very steep climb. Really worth. This side connects with La Rabasada side about 1 km to the summit. - Molins de Rei side. Santa Creu d'Olorda. Fantastic solitaire road in the middle of the forest. This road gets to Vallvidrera, and then shares the road with Via Augusta side. Once at the top you have to enjoy the views over the city. Magnificient viewpoint at 500 mts above sea level, which you reallly deserved if you cycled up there. If you climb some stairs
